HYPERFILE.SYS

This file has been with us for awhile.  I first noticed it with the XP operating system on a LapTop.
F.W.I.W I do not find this file on my Windows 2008 Server installation.
Once I figured out it was for the Hibernation feature of the notebook, I forgot about it.
However Vista seems to want to have it on all systems, including Destop computers.

Hyperfile.Sys is a System file and is not normally displayed in Windows Explorer.
However if you turn on viewing System files you will see it, and will notice it is the same size as your memory.
On my system with 3g of memory there was a 3g file sitting in the root directory which would never be used.
Even worse, a friend of mine has 16g of memory.
Files of this size can start to create problems if you do as I do, and use System Backup software such as Acronis
Bad part is, there is no place in the GUI of Vista to turn the Hybernation feature off.
However there is a command line you can run from a DOS Prompt (running as administrator) which will allow you to turn off Hybernation.
To turn On Hibernation issue this command --> Powercfg -h on
To turn Off Hibernation issue this command --> Powercfg -h off
To see all Options for Powercfg use --> Powercfg /?
