Windows 7 Cannot Map Network Drives:

You have been using Windows 7 for some time using mapped drives, then for unknown reasons you cannot map a drive.
No changes have been made to the system.
No Updates have been applied.
You can do a System Restore and can Map Drives again, but the problem returns.

Here is how to fix the problem.

  1. Open the Control Panel and select Device Manager
  2. Go down to Network adapters
  3. Select View at the top of the form.
  4. Check Show hidden devices
  5. Now delete all devices having the name --> Microsoft 6to4 Adapter

Reboot the system and you will be able to map drives.

But the problem will return someday for unknown reasons.

Here is how to fix this problem forever.

From the DOS command running as Administrator issue the command below.

netsh in 6to4 set state disable

Do you have a large file named --> Hyperfile.sys?

Here is how to get rid of Hyperfile.sys.
Using Vista or Later and it refuses to execute a program?

From a DOS Command running as Administrator.
To Turn OFF DEP --> bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOff
To Turn ON DEP -->  bcdedit.exe /set {current} nx AlwaysOn
NOTE: You will need to reboot for the change to take effect.

To check to see if DEP is turned on issue this command Below
wmic OS Get DataExecutionPrevention_SupportPolicy

If it is running you will see a number other than Zero.
If it is not running you will see a Zero.


Use Process Explorer to view the DEP Status of all programs running.

After you have it running Select "/view/Select Columns" from the Tool Bar then select DEP Status

I do not know if anyway to get to this program other than from a DOS Window.
From the DOS command box enter the command below.

Note: Upper and Lower Case Matter.
And it is all on one line.

rundll32.exe keymgr.dll,KRShowKeyMgr

You will now be able to see the the programs using a password.
From this screen you can change your passwords or Backup / Restore your Passwords.
